The original hyaluronic gel dermal filler. Restylane is a safe, smooth and skin-compatible hyaluronic acid gel dermal filler for wrinkles, folds, lips and under eye hollows.
With Restylane . . .
Instantly create a more youthful and energetic appearance by eliminating aging lines and wrinkles. Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance almost identical to that already existing in your body. Previous fillers were derived from animal sources and could cause delayed allergic response. Restylane is not animal-derived and therefore does not contain any animal proteins that could trigger an unpleasant reaction.
In the US, the FDA has approved Restylane for wrinkles and folds. It can also be used for frown lines, smile lines, as a fill for the area above the lips to minimize vertical lip lines, marionette lines, chin augmentation, brow asymmetry, drooping mouth corners, chicken pox and acne scars. Adding a touch of Restylane to the earlobes will return balance to the ear and eliminate elongated earlobes. Restylane is also an ideal dermal injection for filling in hollows under the eyes.

Hyaluronic acid, the natural sugar that Restylane is made from, is virtually unmatched in hydrating the skin — resulting in increased smoothness, softening, elasticity and decreased facial creases. Hyaluronic acid molecules can hold 1000 times their weight in water, adding a maximal hydration effect to skin tissues. The way your skin looks is directly related to the way your skin is supported. As we age the natural support layers in the skin break down. This break down process results in the wrinkles we see in the mirror. Restylane becomes the support replacement, gently lifting wrinkles the same way your natural hyaluronic acid used to.
A very versatile filler, Restylane fills wrinkles, increases fullness and enhances the lips. It helps define the lip line and can even fill scars and plump up facial areas that have lost their youthful appearance.
Dr. Mani’s long time experience as an ophthalmologist has given her particular expertise in improving the area around the eye with utmost safety. She routinely uses Restylane for filling under-eye hollows to lessen dark circles and help make the eye area much younger appearing. Another filler, Artefill, is available for permanent filling of under eye hollows.
Prior to the availability of suitable injectable dermal fillers, the only options for replacing lost volume under the eye was through surgical fat transfer. Restylane has become an easy and much less expensive option. UK’s Cosmetic Surgery Today Article “Eyes Wide Open”
The injection procedure is simple and the results are immediate. It adds the volume lost during the aging process. Restylane stabilization technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone — close to 6 months, with longer effect in the eye area. Is Restylane safe?
Since 1996 in the United States, and longer in Europe, Restylane has an outstanding safety profile. The bio-compatibility of Restylane eliminates the need for allergy testing. Minimal side effects include an initial post injection swelling that generally resolves in a few days. This initial swelling is caused by the “water pulling” effect hyaluronic acid has within the skin. Once the new balance is achieved, you’ll have a natural looking and smooth correction of your wrinkles.
What is Restylane made of?
Restylane is made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid (It was the first such filler of its kind approved in the U.S.). Hyaluronic acid, which already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin, provides a very soft “fill” which moves easily with your normal muscle activity.
The hyaluronic acid which makes up Restylane is a crystal-clear gel called NASHA, or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. Restylane is both biodegradable and completely biocompatible. Restylane and Perlane are the only products to boast Non-Animal, Stabilized, Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA).
NASHA was the first stable, bio-degradable, non-animal hyaluronic acid available and is produced under carefully controlled conditions. Restylane and Perlane are both clear soft gels, which can be used individually or in combination with one another or other fillers such as Juvederm and the volumizer Radiesse. For superficial fine lines such as the vertical lips lines sometime referred to as smoker’s lines, Cosmoderm or Cosmoplast may be layered on top of Restylane or other deeper-based dermal fillers. Note: Collagen fillers are no longer manufactured. We recommend hyaluronic gels for layering. Ask us about Belotero which should be available in the Fall of 2012. Belotero will be used superficially as collagen was in the past, making it a perfect filler for small lines that are hard to treat with other fillers.
How long will the benefits of my Restylane treatment last?
You can expect a correction of about 6 months, longer with touch ups and in some areas, Restylane lasts longer than others.
