Dr. Mani is a top Sculptra injector in San Diego County and is an official National Training Physician for Sculptra.
A favorite among our patients, Sculptra creates a facial lift by causing your skin to produce more of its own collagen...The final results are YOUR skin, not a filler! Used in combination with the Ultherapy Lift for deep level lifting, these two nonsurgical procedures provide a unique synergistic action for unequaled results.
Approved by the FDA for facial volume deficiency and wrinkles, Sculptra is a unique, on-of-a-kind injectable product which stimulates natural collagen production. When prepared for injection, Sculptra is a bio-degradable highly diluted mixture of powdered poly-l-lactic acid - the same material as dissolvable sutures - and sterile water. Injected into the skin, the response by the body is collagen stimulation.
The final effect is a restoration of lost facial volume due to aging or a supplementation of genetic volume deficiency. The "side effect" is a reduction of facial wrinkles and folds. Effects are proven to last at minimum two years with most patients appreciating much longer improvements as the effects are actual collagen increases and not solely product, as is the case for most other filler products which typically last 6 to 9 months.
No. You will see a response immediately but this is temporary and an effect of the product dilutant (sterile water). Because your own collagen growth takes time, you will see instead a gradual change in the appearance of your skin and facial contour. Most patients require 2 or 3 sessions, provided over a period of months, to reach the desired improvement levels. Friends and even family will be unaware that your are undergoing a "de-aging" process, just that you look more energetic and youthful.
Sculptra is the ONLY product of its kind and is only provided by a select group of qualified physicians - plastic surgeons, ophthalmologists and dermatologists. Dr. Mani has been trained by noted International Sculptra master trainer Rebecca Fitzgerald, M.D.
"Other physicians (dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons and aestheticians) have commented on how skilled Dr. Mani is at injecting Sculptra. They've all noted her impressive ability to achieve a natural and well balanced result." -Marina, Topix Pharmaceuticals
Facial aging is often seen beginning even in younger years as the collagen supply in the body slows down. Our bodies have a natural cycle of collagen synthesis and collagen breakdown. As the production cycle slows, the breakdown cycle does not. This is one of the primary reasons women even as young as those of you in your 30's begin to see yourselves as looking tired and less energetic.
As age advances, collagen production slows even more - except now the body begins to experience bone loss along with that collagen slow down.
This triple combination loss of support tissue - bone, muscle and collagen - translates into visible volume loss, sagging and sometimes a profound loss of facial balance. Stanford University Study Bone Loss Effect on Appearance
This patient came to our clinic desiring softening of facial folds and the first signs of loss of cheek prominence. With Sculptra, Dr. Mani has provided a subtle and natural-looking volume restoration by strategic placement of the injected stimulator.
The patient doesn't look "done", simply more refreshed and more youthful.
The best part? The results are those of her own new collagen, not a temporary filler.
It is easy to guess age of a relatively healthy person simply by viewing the shape of the face. In women, the evidence of aging is in the rectangular heavy shape of the lower face and the loss of the cheek projection. Also, in many, a temple depression accentuates the heaviness and shape change with more attention brought to the lower face - with the attendant jowling, loss of chin definition and loss of proportion.
Bone support decreases with an increase in the distance between the end of the nose and the top of the lip. The lengthier the upper lip area, the more aged the look.
Sculptra volume restoration through collagen stimulation is the only product that can be used in all the areas to provide an overall "lift" effect and youthful restoration of volume and proportion. Although we cannot restore inevitable bone loss, the effects can be visually reversed with selective location volume restoration.

Sculptra has been used cosmetically outside the U.S. since 1999 and is a very popular procedure in Europe and Canada. In 2004 Sculptra was FDA approved for use in volume restoration from fat loss (facial lipoatrophy) for HIV patients. In July of 2009, the FDA approved Sculptra for the cosmetic indications of volume deficiency and facial wrinkles.
FAQ about Sculptra Collagen Stimulator
The visible effects of facial aging are the progressive changes you see when you look in the mirror – including loss of skin elasticity, sagging, forehead lines, frown lines, crow's-feet, smile lines, lip lines, marionette lines – the lines framing your mouth – as well as changes to the color and texture of the skin and loss of volume.
Facial aging usually begins in your 20s when the firmness of your skin begins to decrease. Wrinkles, blemishes, and sunspots may also start to appear, becoming more pronounced with age. Of course, changes vary from person to person.
Facial aging is caused by both internal and external factors. Internal (or chronological) factors happen over time and are caused by genetics and the natural aging process. External (or environmental) factors are things in the world around you, including sun exposure, smoking, pollution, gravity, facial expressions, and sleep position. All of these factors can contribute to changes in the skin, as well as changes in facial bones.
Collagen is a fibrous protein in the dermis that gives structure to the skin, and provides the foundation for the retention of elastin and hyaluronic acid. Elastin is an elastic protein that helps maintain shape, while hyaluronic acid cushions and lubricates to keep the skin moist. More collagen enables the presence of more elastin and hyaluronic acid.
With age and environmental damage, collagen is lost, and as time goes on, the body's natural production decreases. The damage to the underlying structure of the skin reduces the skin's ability to maintain elasticity and retain moisture.
Yes, absolutely. Many patients desire a complete rejuvenation which might include skin resurfacing (either laser or chemical peels), BOTOX® or Dysport for dynamic wrinkling and lip augmentation with Juvederm. The possibilities increase almost daily as new products and new technology are developed.
