What is Cryosurgery?

Cryosurgery is a minimally invasive surgical treatment used to treat a variety of non-cancerous skin lesions. Also referred to as cryotherapy, this treatment uses a very cold substance like liquid nitrogen to freeze away unhealthy skin lesions while keeping the remaining tissues around the lesion healthy and untouched. Dr. Siddiqui may recommend patients receive cryotherapy treatments to address concerns like warts and molluscum, skin tags, or dark spots on the skin.

How is Cryosurgery Performed?

Your cryosurgery treatments will be performed by Dr. Faryal Siddiqui in our beautiful office. Before your treatment begins, a topical or local anesthetic may be applied to your treatment area. This is to ensure you remain comfortable throughout your treatment session. Once numb, Dr. Siddiqui will apply the cryotherapy using a spray or cotton swab. Treatment sessions are typically short, but the length of your treatment will depend on the size and severity of your skin lesion.

What Can I Expect During Cryosurgery Recovery?

Following your cryosurgery treatment, it’s normal for the skin to be red, tender, and blistered for several days. This blistering will typically scab over within one week of treatment, and scabs generally heal on their own within three weeks. If you have any questions about your cryosurgery recovery, we encourage you to contact us at your convenience. One of our medical team members will be happy to assist you over the phone or may recommend coming into the office for further assistance.

How Much Does Cryosurgery Cost?

The cost of your cryosurgery treatments will vary depending on the extent of treatment needed to achieve your desired results. La Jolla Cosmetic Laser Clinic accepts coverage from most insurance plans. To get a more accurate estimate of your treatment cost, we encourage you to come in for a private consultation.
