What Is Restylane?

Restylane is a very popular hyaluronic acid based dermal filler that provides instant and long lasting results. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, and as such, Restylane requires no testing for allergic reactions before injection.

Restylane works by restoring lost volume and filling in lines and wrinkles. It is virtually painless, although if you are concerned about potential pain or discomfort, we can apply a topical numbing cream beforehand. Most patients tolerate Restylane very well, and the procedure itself takes only around 10 to 15 minutes, potentially longer if you are having multiple areas treated.

Side Effects Of Restylane

Restylane is FDA approved with a very high safety profile. As long as you visit an experienced injector, there are no serious side effects to be concerned about. However, as with all injectable treatments, there is a risk of bruising and swelling.

Generally, bruising and swelling last only a few days and are minor enough to be covered effectively with makeup. Swelling from lip injections may last for up to two weeks before you see your final result. If you are concerned about bruising, there are steps you can take to minimize the risk:

• Avoid blood thinning vitamins or medications such as aspirin or fish oil for two weeks beforehand
• Apply arnica if you see a bruise beginning to form
• Visit an experienced injector with good technique
