What are Fractional Lasers?
Fractional lasers come in two types: ablative and non-ablative. Non-ablative lasers like the Fraxel are very effective, but more gentle than other lasers. Generally, lasers like the Fraxel are more suited for mild to moderate acne scars. Fractional CO2 lasers are available, but generally require greater downtime.

How Does Fraxel Work?
The Fraxel laser works on acne scars by creating very small microthermal zones or dots that penetrate deep within the skin. Your skin repairs this “damage” by pushing out old, acne-scarred skin and replacing the treated area with fresh skin. Every Fraxel treatment triggers your own body’s natural healing cascade. This speeds up the production of new collagen, which gradually renews your skin and minimizes your acne scars.
Patients often first notice results within one week of their Fraxel treatment. Of course, the results depend on the severity of your acne scars, as well as other factors.
