It’s one of the exciting “new” trends in European spas: nourishing beer baths for the improvement of the skin. This trend uses a base of a German or Czech style pilsner, adds hot water and some extra hops to create a foamy, thick, luxuriant soak. It is designed to stimulate circulation in the skin and is supposedly an excellent treatment for everything from acne to cellulite and dozens of other skin conditions caused by poorly nourished skin. A post-soak sweat is designed to help the body remove toxins, so that you emerge not only rested, but renewed.
There is, of course, no real science supporting the value of a beer bath, but there’s plenty of anecdotal evidence of how relaxing and luxurious an experience it is. Some people report real value in the treatments. So if you find yourself in a spa that offers this luxury, take advantage of it. When in Rome . . . or in Bremen as the case may be.
But if you are really looking for improvement of various skin conditions, we recommend that here at home you rely on scientifically-proven treatments to fight acne, cellulite and other skin conditions. For acne, we recommend Isolaz, which uses mechanical vacuum-assisted deep pore cleaning and broadband light to combat both the bacteria that cause acne and the food that supports them. For cellulite, we utilize Thermage, which encourages your body to resculpt the fat deposits responsible for the uneven skin texture.
