More women than ever before are turning to BOTOX® Cosmetic in their early- to mid-20s in order to prevent wrinkles from forming altogether. According to a study conducted by ABC News, the number of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections administered to women in their 20s increased 10% from 2011 to 2012.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical treatment which temporarily paralyzes your facial muscles, preventing them from contracting and forming wrinkles. The results experienced with BOTOX® Cosmetic typically last 3-4 months.
There is a growing debate among the medical community as to whether engaging in this preventative strategy at such a young age is effective and worth pursuing. Some doctors believe starting BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments early is an effective way to prevent wrinkles from forming in the first place. Other doctors believe administering these treatments to patients younger than 30 can do more harm than good.
At La Jolla Cosmetic Laser Clinic, we recommend waiting until there are facial wrinkles to treat to begin BOTOX® Cosmetic sessions. However, Dr. Mani is always happy to discuss your options with you in person during a free consultation.
