Have You Heard of the O-Shot? It’s Oh, So Good!

In La Jolla

By Nasrin Mani, M.D.

Sexual wellness has always been an important topic. However, it is not one that has been well discussed throughout history. For many decades, a woman’s sense of pleasure was not even acknowledged. When it was, there were very few, if any, real solutions. We have come a long way in a very short period. Now, women are talking about their concerns with their sisters, mothers, friends, and lovers. They have even begun talking about their concerns with their doctors, and we’re seeing meaningful solutions getting developed all the time. One such solution is the O-Shot, a brief, all-natural treatment that we’re proud to offer in our La Jolla office.

What is the O-Shot?

You may easily guess why this treatment is called the O-Shot. It was named for its intent to increase the frequency and intensity of a woman’s orgasms. The way that this procedure works is by injecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the tissue around the vaginal opening and clitoris. PRP is a blood product. We get it from drawing blood from the arm. The vial that is drawn is spun in a centrifuge. High-speed spinning separates the plasma from red blood cells. PRP can then be put into a syringe and injected into superficial tissue.

Platelet-rich plasma has been used for many years in regenerative medicine. Doctors use it after orthopedic surgery procedures to facilitate optimal tissue healing. PRP is used in joints to help stimulate the reproduction of vital cartilage. This substance is also used in anti-aging facials and hair restoration. It has a long history of clinical use, which makes it a good option for vaginal rejuvenation, too.

Studies have indicated that the O-Shot can achieve several improvements for women facing the effects of vaginal atrophy. These include:

The primary question that patients have about the O-Shot is “does it hurt?” It does not. Before administering injections, we numb the treatment area with a local anesthetic. Patients find that they feel only a bit of pressure as tissue absorbs the plasma. There is no pinch or poking sensation from injections. Treatment takes less than 20 minutes, after which there is no discomfort and patients can immediately resume normal activities.

Women’s sexual health is important and it is something we can manage. La Jolla Cosmetic Laser Clinic has several devices that can address vaginal laxity and sexual health concerns. For more information, call 866.676.3242.
