The Jessner peel is a brand-name chemical peel that has been extensively studied and proven for safety and efficacy. This skin-renewing technique is commonly performed on the face, but can also be applied to the neck, chest, and even the back to manage complexion and texture. Being a medium-depth chemical peel, the Jessner peel affects the uppermost layer of the dermis with controlled application of a combination alpha- and beta-hydroxy acid solution. This is the basic chemical breakdown. More specifically, the Jessner contains TCA (trichloroacetic acid), salicylic acid, and lactic acid. Each ingredient has a specific effect on the skin. For example, salicylic acid dissolves the outermost layer of the epidermis, which is largely composed of hardened, damaged skin cells. Lactic acid is an ingredient that promotes hydration. Depending on the objective, additional ingredients may be added to the solution.
