As we embark on the New Year, millions of New Year’s resolutions will involve slimming down and shaping up. If your goal is to shed some weight and reduce cellulite, you should be cautious about fad diets touting results that are too good to be true.
Firstly, you should know cellulite is not eliminated by weight loss. Cellulite is not a result of fat so much as it is caused by characteristics of your skin, namely the inelasticity of select bands of tissue: Bands of fibrous tissue run through the fat underneath your skin. Sometimes, these bands become inelastic and stiff, which causes the fat to bulge out around them, giving your skin a dimpled appearance. Laser-based cellulite treatments like Thermage® are one of the only ways to get rid of cellulite.
Secondly, fad diets can be dangerous and are often ineffective. Avoid diets that:
- Result in decreasing your intake of vitamins and nutrients
- Replace food with liquids
- Advertise rapid weight loss and a quick fix
To pursue a healthier weight, get regular exercise. Ask your doctor about how you can healthfully change your diet to increase your wellness and lose weight. Laser therapy can help you reduce the appearance of cellulite.
