Most patients experience only mild, temporary reactions, such as redness, swelling, or slight bruising, which will disappear in a few hours to a couple of days.
In rare cases, some individuals may experience changes in pigmentation, such as hyperpigmentation (darkening) or hypopigmentation (lightening) of the skin, particularly if they have a darker skin type. Scarring is also very rare, especially when a skilled, experienced provider performs the treatment.
It’s also important to note that those with active skin conditions, such as herpes simplex virus (cold sores), may need to take precautions before undergoing treatment, as the laser could trigger a flare-up.
