After your blepharoplasty procedure in San Diego County, you’ll need to be driven home by a friend or family member. You won’t be able to drive yourself home, since the after-effects of the procedure can temporarily impair vision and cause drowsiness.
Once you’ve returned home, you’ll need to rest and recover. During the healing process, make sure to follow Dr. Grushchak’s recovery directions closely. This will minimize the likelihood of post-surgical complications, encourage optimal eyelid surgery results, and help you avoid a prolonged healing process.
During blepharoplasty recovery, it will be necessary to wear sunglasses whenever you’re outside to protect your healing tissues from sun, wind, and pollutants. You’ll also need to apply sunscreen regularly and avoid prolonged sun exposure, since the eyelids will be more sensitive for a time.
Mild bruising and swelling are normal after eyelid surgery. To encourage these to fade sooner, keep your head elevated at all times and apply cold compresses to the areas. Do not rub your eyes, and use prescribed eye drops and ointments to address dry eyes and other issues.
Wearing contacts is prohibited for around two weeks. Glasses can be worn safely. Take about 10 days off from work to rest, and avoid physically taxing activities like sports and heavy exercise for 3 weeks.
You’ll need to come in for follow-up appointments with Dr. Grushchak. These appointments will allow her to check on the status of your healing process and address any complications. Typically, non- dissolvable sutures will be used to close blepharoplasty incisions. Because of this, sutures will need to be removed during a follow-up appointment. If necessary, Dr. Grushchak will determine if non dissolvable sutures need to be placed depending on the patient.
