By Nasrin Mani, M.D.
Sculptra injections, often referred to in our office as a “facial lift that’s created by your skin’s own collagen,” is a unique treatment for facial wrinkles and sagging.Sculptra is made up of poly-l-lactic acid and sterile water. When injected into the skin, the body is stimulated to produce more collagen.
After the Sculptra treatment, here’s what you can expect:
- Immediately following the treatment, Dr. Marin will massage treated areas. You’ll be asked to continue the massage therapy five times a day over the next five days at home.
- You can go back to work right after the procedure if you’d like.
- Some patients notice redness, mild swelling and tenderness at the injection sites after treatment. Minor bruising or lumps can also occur. These usually go away on their own within a week. If you notice a firm lump that does not go away, Dr. Marin will want to see you as soon as possible.
- There will likely be a slight fullness in the treated area from the water in Sculptra for at least two days after treatment.
It is important to note that you probably won’t see positive results (reduction of wrinkle appearance, etc.) right away. Collagen growth will take time.
