Kybella Injections in San Diego, CA

A double or triple chin is a complex issue that is not necessarily tied to your weight; therefore, diet and exercise may do little to reshape your upper neck area. At La Jolla Cosmetic Laser Clinic, we recommend Kybella® injections for men and women in San Diego, Encinitas, La Mesa, El Cajon, and surrounding areas of California, who want to reduce excess fat along the jawline line and upper neck region.

Fat under the chin, known medically as submental fullness, has traditionally only been treatable with liposuction. The FDA’s approval of the injectable Kybella™ offers a simple, non-surgical in-office treatment to literally melt fat under the chin.

Kybella Injections Before and After Pictures San Diego, CA

Quite simply, Kybella®

  • Removes fat under the chin permanently
  • Requires only simple injections of the same molecule our bodies use to remove fat naturally
  • Involves no downtime
  • Leaves you looking thinner and more youthful

Not Just Physicians, But Training Physicians

Kybella is offered in our clinic by Dr. Nasrin Mani. Dr Mani has special injection skills as a training physician for many fillers, so you know you will have the most expert treatment.

How Kybella Works

The injection contains a molecule which destroys the fat cell membrane. Once the membrane is “popped”, the fat within the cells is naturally removed by the body. You will have a series of treatments, all fast and easy, monthly. Average number of cycles varies per patient, but expect 4 to 6, each one month apart. You will begin noticing changes very quickly and each session will remove more fat cells.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

You will need a consultation to determine the recommended number of sessions/cycles. Fat accumulates differently on everyone. If during your treatment program it is determined you need less (or more) sessions, that will be adjusted as required. You will never be treated with more cycles than required.

Is A Kybella Treatment Painful?

The needles used for injection are fine, small needles and the injections are placed quickly. Your skin will be numbed with lidocaine prior to the injections so the most you will feel is a small sting from the numbing injection and some slight burning with the medication injections. Patients are usually surprised at how quickly and comfortably the process is completed. Are There Side Effects? Kybella will cause some initial swelling and redness and the possibility of some minor bruising. You may feel numbness or some tenderness for several days to a week. These are normal and expected sensations and are caused by the action of the medication on the fat cells. See Kybella Consumer site for Safety Information

Who Can Get Kybella?

Kybella is offered to patients over the age of  21. There is no upper age limit and clinical trial patients as old as 65 have been successfully treated. There are a few medical conditions that would prevent your treatment. These can be discussed during your consultation. Patients with pronounced skin laxity due to age or premature loss of skin elasticity may require a tightening procedure after the procedures are complete.

Can I Exercise After Kybella Treatment?

It is expected to have bruising and swelling in the area treated for about 3-7 days after treatment. The patient should avoid strenuous exercise until the swelling and bruising resolves. This is because strenuous exercise increases blood flow to the area treated, which then can worsen swelling and bruising and delay healing time.

How Many Patients Were Treated In The Clinical Trials?

Kybella has been the focus of a global clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies with more than 2,600 patients worldwide, of which over 1,600 have been treated with this injectable

Kybella® Injections FAQs

How Long Does Kybella® Last?

The Kybella® treatment permanently reduces fat under the chin. However, these injections cannot prevent future changes in the chin due to weight gain. To make results last as long as possible, patients are encouraged to practice healthy diet and exercise habits.

How Many Shots of Kybella® Do You Need?

The number of Kybella® injections needed will vary by patient depending on their cosmetic goals. Generally, most patients achieve their desired results with two or three treatments. Some patients may need as many as five treatments for best results.

How Much are Kybella® Injections?

The cost of your Kybella® injections will depend on the number of treatments needed, as more treatments will correlate with a higher treatment cost. Fortunately, Kybella® and other treatments are made much more affordable with the availability of financing options.

Is Kybella® Only for the Chin?

Yes. Currently, Kybella® is only FDA-approved for treating fat underneath the chin. It is currently not available for treating fat in other areas of the body.

Which is Better, Kybella® or CoolSculpting®?

Kybella® and CoolSculpting® both offer patients a non-surgical option for reducing fat in the chin. Generally, CoolSculpting® will have lower costs and downtime, but may require more treatment sessions. By discussing your goals with your doctor, you can determine the treatment that is best for you.
